Prof. R. J. Moots
Robert Moots is
Professor of Rheumatology at the University of Liverpool, Head of
the University of Liverpool Academic Rheumatology Unit and
Consultant Rheumatologist at Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool,
UK. After qualifying in Medicine in London, UK, Prof. Moots
trained in immunology at the
Institute for Molecular Medicine at the University of Oxford, where
he earned his PhD. Prof. Moots continued his research at Harvard
Medical School. He returned to the UK in 1997 and in 2002 became the
youngest full Professor of Rheumatology and Head of Department.
Prof. Moots’ research interests lie in clinical and basic science
aspects of rheumatic diseases, from bench to bedside. He has
published extensively, won the prestigious Michael Mason prize for
rheumatology research, is active in international medical and
scientific societies and committees and each year receives
invitations to lecture on every continent. Prof. Moots has extensive
experience in drug development working with the pharmaceutical
industry internationally and with bodies such as the UK National
Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE). He is Medical
Advisor to major UK patient groups and in 2009 took over as
Editor-in-Chief of Rheumatology. Clinical service remains an
important part of his work and has recently become Director of the
UK National Centre for Behçet’s disease at Liverpool.

Dr. Vikas Agarwal did his MBBS and MD (Medicine) from King George's
Medical College, Lucknow, India and DM in clinical immunology from
Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS),
Lucknow, India. After a
brief tenure as Asst. Prof. at Govt. Med. College and Hospital,
Chandigarh, he joined back at his parent institute SGPGIMS, Lucknow
where he is serving as Additional Professor in Immunology.
Dr. V. Agarwal is an excellent teacher, clinician and
research worker. He has more than 50 international publications to
his credit including in NEJM & Oxford Rheumatology. In addition he
has been awarded the Dr JC
Patel and Dr. BC Mehta Awards by the Journal of Association
Physicians India (2000 and 2003), Best paper at IRACON 2004 and
2008, Japan College of Rheumatology International travel fellowship
( 2005 and 2006), European League against Rheumatism travel
fellowship ( 2007), Zydus oration at IRACON (2007). He is currently
involved in many research projects both at clinical and molecular
level.
